Grand Octobers — Created For Now

Octobers are grand. It is a month filled with change. Although some fear change, I absolutely desire it. My anticipation for October starts on September 1st when all of my autumn decor starts emerging from their neatly tucked storage boxes, and my husband smilingly shakes his head at my giddiness over all things pumpkin.

It is kismet that I would launch my blog in October. Although the idea has stirred within me for several months, I was distracted, hesitant and doubtful. Plus, what do I blog about? There are so many topics I can identify with, so how do I hone in on just one? Honestly, I did not know where to start. Then October showed up, and suddenly I found my blog’s goal and purpose: Beauty and Gold.

The world holds so much beauty, yet we hyperfocus on the ugliness transpiring around us. It is so easy to stay submerged in a negative neutral state. Whether it is at home with our beloved screaming kids, sitting in neverending traffic, or in a high-energy workplace, we can easily lose sight of what was, what is, and what can be.

For a small moment each week I hope to turn the focus from the big, crazy, and stressful stuff, and place a magnifying glass on the small everyday beauty, in all its forms.

Then there are those golden nuggets we find in life. They come from our spouse, our children, and our friends. Do we recognize them when they are dropped into the palm of our hands? And, could those golden nuggets help someone else? Proverbs 16:16 (NLT) says, “How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver!” My heart for this blog is to search out and share wisdom, and the beauty that accompanies it.

I invite you on this journey with me for a few minutes each week. Where we can stop in the art gallery of life to see the beauty hanging from the walls of the world. Where we can kneel at the river and pan for those small pieces of gold that will bring us value as we encounter life.
